1st Meadowridge Scout Group was founded by Mr Stuart McPhearson and his wife at the beginning of the Meadowridge Garden Cities Project in the 1950’s. They initially started running the Scouts and Cubs from their garage until the Hall was completed in 1962, which is still their current home.
Located on the edge of the Meadowridge Common, and near the soccer field, they are fortunate to have nature and place for outdoor activities on their doorstep.
Their current Chairman is James Magner who has been a member with 1st Meadowridge since 1986, when he joined the Cubs at the age of 7. James progressed to Springbok Scout, which is the top achievement obtainable for a Scout at 18 years old. James then continued as a Troop Leader until 2015 when he handed over the reigns to his assistant, Carig. James is now the Chairman of the Parent Committee.
The Meadowridge Scouts and Cubs are very active in the community. They take part in events and competitions that are run by the Two Oceans Scout District (encompassing Constantia to Retreat and Southern Peninsula) which include camps, fun days and community.
In addition to their District events they are active in the Western Cape area for Scouting events including, fully instructed courses on how to sail a boat, read a map, First Aid and even cooking. Area competitions such as raft building, camping, hiking, fun days (such as Ratanga Junction, Cub Fun Day) and special events such as Volvo Ocean Race visits and ceremonies.
